Final Stats
Hamilton, N.Y. - In a hard fought battle, Marist (1-1) fell to Colgate (1-2) Sunday afternoon on the Raiders' home field. The match was the second for Marist at the Puma Raider Invitational.
After a scoreless 90 minutes, Colgate would open the scoring with a goal from Danielle Wessler. The goal came less than one minute into the extra period, in the 91st minute.
Marist had a number of opportunities, but couldn't get the ball past the Raiders net minder. Three Red Foxes registered shots. They were sophomore Merrilynn Esteve, junior Kate Fox, and freshman Jennifer Orlando.
The Red Foxes held the edge in shots until halftime, but after Colgate posted 13 shots in the second half, they would hold the advantage in shots for the match with 18. Marist would end the match with 12 shots.
One bright spot for Marist was sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Balzarini, who made 10 saves for the Red Foxes in the game. Throughout the game her saves kept Marist in the match. Her record fell to 1-1 this season.
The Red Foxes will open the home portion of their schedule this Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m., when they play host to Seton Hall. It will be the second time in as many seasons that these teams have met.
