Final Stats
Easton, Pa. - When Marist and Lafayette entered tonight's match, both teams were riding multiple game losing streaks. The Red Foxes' was at four games and the Leopards at two. The visiting Red Foxes (2-4) would prevail, 2-0 to get their first win in the month of September and first road win of the season.
Marist would strike first, in the 36th minute, when Daniella Burns (Holbrook, N.Y.) took the ball from 20-yards out dribbled into the box and scored in the upper left corner of the goal. The Red Foxes would go into the break leading 1-0. The goal was Burns' first of the season and of her career.
Marist would add an insurance goal in the 75th minute when Merrilynn Esteve (Morristown, N.J.), to put the Red Foxes ahead 2-0, which would ultimately become the final score. Each of Marist's goals were unassisted.
Defensively, Jamie Balzarini (Holbrook, N.Y.) made three saves for Marist to earn her second shut out and win of the season.
Marist played an incredibly clean match, with just four fouls, and did not commit a foul in the second half of play. Additionally, the Red Foxes held the edge in shots, 8-6, while each team had three shots on goal.
The Red Foxes will return home for their longest home stand of 2008, a three-game stand. The three matches will be played over one week, beginning on Sunday, Sept. 21, when the Lehigh Mountain Hawks come to Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
