POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Saturday night Marist opened a three-game home stand, their longest of the season against, the Fordham Rams. In the match, Marist was held scoreless in a 3-0 decision.
Fordham opened the scoring in the sixth minute on a goal from Aaron Markowitz, after he received a ball from Mike McTigue, and out ran a Marist defender, before putting the ball past Marist goalkeeper Scott Kessler (Jericho, N.Y.).
Before halftime, Marist (1-4-1) would have two opportunities on shots by Chris Nacca (Rochester, N.Y.); however, those chances were saved by Rams keeper Ryan Meara. Marist went into the locker room trailing 1-0.
In the second half, Fordham added two insurance goals in the 62nd and 79th minute off the feet of Tim Richardson and Matt Courtenay.
Marist had a number of chances in the second half on shots from Caleb Shaw (Hampton, N.H.), but could not find the back of the net.
Kessler made his fourth consecutive start, and made five saves in the contest, and made his best attempt to keep Marist in the contest for as long as possible.
The Red Foxes continue their home stand Wednesday night, Sept. 24 when the Stony Brook Seawolves come to Poughkeepsie for a non-conference tilt. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
