POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team continued their three-game home stand against Army Friday night at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Marist controlled much of the possession, but fell short dropping a 2-1 decision to its Hudson Valley foe.
The Army Black Knights (6-4) would strike first in the 19th minute as Dymon Washington put a goal past junior goalkeeper Anna Case (Plattsburgh, N.Y.). Case made two saves on the evening.
Marist (2-6) would pull even just 90 seconds later, when sophomore Kassandra Palmer (Washington, N.J.) dribbled in from the left wing and hit a grounder into the lower left corner of the goal. The score would remain tied at one through halftime.
The majority of the second half was played in the midfield with the exception of a few chances for either squad. However, Army would have the chance that mattered most in the 86th minute on a goal scored by Sarah Goss. The ball was put in off a loose ball in the Red Foxes' 18-meter box.
The Red Foxes had a chance to take the lead in the 48th minute when they had their only corner kick of the match; however, the chance did not amount to a shot by Marist.
Marist will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m., when the Red Foxes play host to the Bucknell Bison, who are currently ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic Region by SoccerBuzz Magazine. The match is the first leg of a Marist soccer program doubleheader, which will also feature the men's program following, when they host the Albany Great Danes at 5 p.m.
