POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team wrapped up a three-game home stand on Sunday afternoon, when they hosted the Bucknell Bison. Bucknell is the fifth team from the Patriot League that Marist has faced in 2008.
The game was scoreless until the 83rd minute when Bucknell's Christa Matlack opened the scoring, on an unassisted goal. It was Matlack's fifth goal of the season.
Marist and Bucknell were even in many statistical categories, including shots, five a piece, corner kicks, three each, and fouls, 10 per team.
With the loss Marist now stands at 2-7 so far in 2008, and five of those losses have come with eight or fewer minutes remaining in regulation, or sudden death goals scored in an overtime period. The Red Foxes have played each of their opponents closely, never losing by more than two goals in a match.
The Red Foxes will open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, when the team travels to western New York this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 3 the Red Foxes will face-off with the Golden Griffs of Canisius at 7 p.m. Marist will complete the swing when they tussle with Niagara on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
