Marist Falls In Overtime To Siena

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 91-85 overtime loss to Siena on Thursday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes (7-12 overall, 3-4 MAAC) held a 14-point lead with 3:26 to play, but the Saints (13-5, 7-0) went on a 23-9 run over the rest of regulation to force overtime. Siena outscored Marist 15-9 in the extra period to remain perfect in MAAC play.

The score was tied at 32 apiece at halftime, and there were eight ties and seven lead changes in the first 20 minutes. The Red Foxes started the second half on a 19-4 run to grab a 15-point lead with 16:03 to play. Marist never led by less than five until Siena's Kyle Downey hit a three-pointer with 47 seconds remaining, cutting Marist's lead to 70-67.

After two free throws by red-shirt senior forward Ryan Schneider (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) gave Marist a 75-71 lead with 27 seconds to go, another three-pointer by Downey cut Marist's lead to 75-74 with 20 seconds left. Red-shirt junior guard Javon Parris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) split a pair of free throws with 16 seconds to play, giving the Red Foxes a two-point lead, but Siena's Edwin Ubiles hit a layup with seconds to play to tie the score at 76 apiece and force overtime. The Saints started the overtime period on an 8-0 run and never led by less than five after that.

Schneider had his second straight double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. He shot 6-for-12 from the field, 4-for-7 from three-point range and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, and also had three blocks and two steals. Freshman guard R.J. Hall (Bloomfield, N.J.) led all scorers with 21 points, going 6-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range. Red-shirt junior point guard David Devezin (Houston, Texas) added 15 points and a team-high four assists.

Alex Franklin led Siena with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Although Franklin was just 2-for-6 from the field, he was 15-for-20 from the free-throw line. The Saints had five scorers in double digits, including Ryan Rossiter (16 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, three steals), Downey (15 points), Kenny Hasbrouck (13 points) and Ronald Moore (11 points).

Siena was 27-for-48 from the free-throw line, while Marist was just 16-for-30. The Red Foxes shot 11-for-26 (.423) from three-point range, marking the seventh straight game Marist shot at least 40 percent from three-point range.

Marist returns to action on Sunday at Loyola (Md.). Tip-off is set for noon.
