Highlights

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Loyola's Jamal Barney scored 26 points and hit the game-winning basket with six seconds left in overtime, lifting the Greyhounds to a 73-72 overtime victory over the Marist men's basketball team in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the McCann Center. Red-shirt senior guard Kaylen Gregory (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) scored a career-high 23 points to lead Marist.

There were 18 lead changes and 14 ties in the game. Loyola led 30-24 at halftime, and took its largest lead of the game at eight when Barney hit a jumper 15 seconds into the second half. Marist then went on a 13-4 run and took a one-point lead with 14:37 to go when red-shirt senior forward Ryan Schneider (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) hit a three-pointer. With 7:28 to play, Schneider hit four consecutive free throws after being fouled and the Loyola bench was hit with a technical foul, which gave Marist its largest lead at 52-45.

With the score tied at 58 and 1:19 to play, a three-pointer by Gregory put Marist up 61-58. A pair of free throws by Loyola's Brett Harvey cut the Red Foxes' lead to one with eight seconds to play, but Schneider put Marist back up three with a pair of free throws of his own just two seconds later. On Loyola's last possession of regulation, Harvey drained a shot from approximately 30 feet away to send the game to overtime.

With 19 seconds left in overtime, Schneider drained a pair of free throws to put Marist up 72-71. Barney hit what proved to be the game-winner on the ensuing possession, but not before the Red Foxes missed a shot to take the lead in the closing seconds.

Gregory shot 8-for-11 from the field, 3-for-4 from three-point range and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Schneider finished with 21 points and six rebounds, while red-shirt junior point guard David Devezin (Houston, Texas) added 12 points, six assists and four rebounds. Sophomore forward Korey Bauer (Whitehall, Pa.) finished with 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks in his first career start.

For Loyola, Barney had game highs in points, rebounds (eight) and steals (three). He was also 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. Harvey finished with 19, and he also went 10-for-10 from the line as the Greyhounds shot 84.4 percent (27-for-32) on their free throws for the game.

Loyola now stands at 10-12 overall and 5-5 in the MAAC; Marist is now 7-15 overall and 3-7 in conference play. The Red Foxes return to action on Friday, when they meet Fairfield for the first time this season. Tip-off at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn., is set for 7:30 p.m.
