RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball team lost its second straight on Friday, suffering a 73-67 loss at Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. Red-shirt senior forward Ryan Schneider (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes in scoring with 21 points, including five three-pointers.
Schneider also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Red-shirt senior guard Kaylen Gregory (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) added 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field, including hitting both of his three-point attempts. Red-shirt sophomore guard Dejuan Goodwin (Baltimore, Md.) added 10 points. The Red Foxes shot 12-for-26 from three-point range.
With 2:47 to play, a three-pointer by freshman guard R.J. Hall (Bloomfield, N.J.) tied the game at 67 apiece. However, Manhattan took the lead for good on a jumper by Devon Austin with 1:13 to play. The Jaspers put the game away when Antoine Pearson went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the last 20 seconds.
Pearson led Manhattan with 20 points, and Austin added 13. The Jaspers' Chris Smith had 10 rebounds, the highest total in the game. Manhattan held a plus-18 advantage in rebounding margin, hauling in 41 to the Red Foxes' 23.
After there were eight lead changes, Manhattan closed the first half on a 24-13 run to take a 43-33 lead into the locker room. The Jaspers shot 53.3 percent (16-for-30) in the first half, but Marist shot 57.1 percent (12-for-21) in the second half to get back into the game.
Marist will return home on Sunday to host Niagara in a MAAC contest. Tip-off at the McCann Center is slated for 4 p.m.
