POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Iona Gaels in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match on Sunday at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Sophomore Troy Confessore (Kendall Park, N.J.) scored his second goal of the season in the 67th minute.
Iona grabbed a 2-0 lead in with first half goals by Giovanni Destasio, who notched his ninth goal of the year in the 18th minute, and Adam Rohan scored at the 21:31 mark in the opening frame.
Confessore scored his goal after a Gaels foul on a set piece for Marist. He headed the ball off a cross from junior Nico Mossa (Pelham, N.Y.). The Red Foxes had an opportunity to tie the game in the 88th minute as freshman Stephan Brossard (Port Washington, N.Y.) took a shot that went wide, beyond the far post.
For the match, Marist was outshot 15-6, but did held a slight edge in corner kicks, 3-2.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Friday, Oct. 16 in Riverdale, N.Y., as Marist plays Manhattan in a MAAC match. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
