POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Niagara in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), its final home match of the 2009 regular season. Niagara's Jamie Raepple scored the match's only goal in the 70th minute to lift the Purple Eagles past the Red Foxes. Prior to the match, the program's five seniors were recognized. They were Maria Baez (Levittown, N.Y.), Jamie Balzarini (Holbrook, N.Y.), Teresa Ferraro (Floral Park, N.Y.), Kate Fox (Franklin, Mass.) and Alexandra Lauterborn (Farmingdale, N.Y.).
Balzarini made seven saves in the match, including five in the first half to keep the score knotted at zero heading into halftime.
Raepple took a feed off the foot of Chaira Greco and touched the ball past Balzarini in from less than five yards from the goal.
There were only eight total fouls in the match a 5-3 split with the Red Foxes holding the larger number of obstructions.
Marist will conclude the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Siena. First touch is scheduled for 2 p.m., at Siena Turf Field.
