JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Led by 23 kills and 15 digs by senior outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas), the Marist volleyball team defeated Saint Peter's 3-1 (26-24, 17-25, 25-11, 25-16) at the Yanitelli Center Sunday afternoon. Schultze hit .525 for the match. The win is the Red Foxes' fourth in a row.
Marist (14-9, 8-4 MAAC) fought off a set point at 24-23 in the first set and won the last three points on a Schultze kill and service and a Joanna Foss (Northville, Mich.) kill. After dropping the second set, the Red Foxes' hit .342 in the third set to rout the Peahens 25-11. Marist held Saint Peter's to a .086 hitting percentage in the third set. Ahead 16-13 in the fourth set, the Red Foxes ran off six straight points to go ahead 22-13 and eventually took the set 25-16 to win the match three sets to one.
Foss also had a double-double on the day, with 13 kills and a career-high 23 digs. Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) had 18 digs with Stephanie Robinett (Sugar Land, Texas) adding 14 digs of her own. Marist hit .221 to Saint Peter's .163 and held an 84-61 advantage in digs.
Marist concludes its three-match road trip on Saturday, Oct. 31 with a match at Manhattan. First serve at Draddy Gymnasium is at noon.
