FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Marist women's soccer team equaled the program record for longest unbeaten streak at six, as it played to a 1-1 draw with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) preseason favorite Fairfield on Friday at Lessing Field. The Red Foxes remain unblemished in conference play with a record of 2-0-1 and 5-3-2 overall.
Freshman Kate Fox (Franklin, Mass.), and Sabia dribbled in and put the ball to the near post on the ground past Stags goalkeeper Kelly Boudreau. Fox has 51 career points and is eight shy of tying the Marist all-time record of 59 held by Jamie Bierwirth.
Fairfield pulled even in the 37th minute on one of three first half corner kicks. Brianna Miller touched a goal beyond Marist netminder Jamie Balzarini (Holbrook, N.Y.) off an Adrinne Boyer corner. Balzarini matched a career-high with 10 saves in the match for the Red Foxes.
Fox and Sabia each put shots on goal in the second overtime, but Boudreau was there each time for the Stags.
Marist will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 5, when it travels to New Rochelle, N.Y., for a MAAC match with the Iona Gaels. Kickoff is slated for noon.
