DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Marist football team won its sixth consecutive game on Saturday, earning a 14-6 triumph over Davidson in a Pioneer Football League contest. The Red Foxes won their sixth straight game as they improved to 7-3 overall, tying the program record for victories in a season, and 5-2 in PFL play.
Both of the Red Foxes' touchdowns were scored by sophomore running back Ryan Dinnebeil (River Vale, N.J.), giving him five in the last two weeks and nine on the season. Dinnebeil's three-yard touchdown run capped a 14-play, 67-yard drive and gave Marist a 7-3 lead in the second quarter. With Marist holding a 7-6 advantage in the fourth quarter, Dinnebeil scored on a five-yard run with 8:01 left to play, which finished off a 15-play, 93-yard drive.
The Red Foxes ran for 276 yards in the game, as they averaged 5.6 yards per carry. Senior quarterback Chris Debowski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) had a career-high 153 yards on 14 carries, and senior running back O'Neil Anderson (Dorchester, Mass.) added 87 yards on 21 carries. Senior wide receiver James LaMacchia (Bronx, N.Y.) caught two passes, breaking the program's single-season record for receptions. LaMacchia now has 58 catches on the season to go along with 964 yards receiving.
Marist outgained Davidson by a margin of 370-144. The Wildcats ran for just 49 yards, and were held to 1.8 yards per carry and nine first downs. Defensively, junior linebacker Kees Coughlin (New Rochelle, N.Y.) had a team-high seven tackles to go along with two tackles for losses and a sack. Senior linebacker Nick Andre (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) finished with six tackles, three tackles for losses, a sack and an interception. Davidson generated just seven yards of total offense in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Michael Blanchard led Davidson with 42 yards rushing on 10 carries, and also completed five of nine passes for 38 yards. Defensively, safety Peter Kidwell had a game-high 11 tackles. The Wildcats concluded their season at 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the PFL.
This marks the sixth time in the program's 32-year varsity history that the Red Foxes have won seven games in a season. Marist had also won seven games in 1990, 1994, 1996, 2002 and 2005.
The Red Foxes will attempt to set the program record for victories next Saturday in their season finale at Dayton. It will be the first meeting between the teams, and kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
