WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 75-38 loss at Hartford on Wednesday night at Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion. Freshman guard Candon Rusin (Topsail, N.C.) led Marist with 12 points.
Rusin shot 4-for-9 from the field, 3-for-7 from three-point range and 1-for-1 from the free-throw line in 24 minutes off the bench. He also added two steals and a rebound.
Rusin was the only Red Fox to score in double digits. Junior forward Daye Kaba (Cergy, France) tied for the team high with eight rebounds apiece. Bauer's rebounding total tied a career high. Kaba added six points and two blocked shots.
Joe Zeglinski led Hartford (1-2) with 22 points. He shot 8-for-11 from the field and 6-for-8 from three-point range. As a team, Hartford shot 28-for-54 (51.9 percent) from the field and 12-for-25 (48.0 percent) from three-point range.
Hartford scored the first nine points of the game on three-pointers by Zeglinski, Milton Burton and Morgan Sabia. The Red Foxes closed the gap to three at 11-8, but then went scoreless over the next 4:46 as Hartford reeled off nine consecutive points. Marist never got within seven the rest of the way. Hartford led 41-21 at the half, and led by as much as 44 in the second half.
Marist fell to 0-2. The Red Foxes will now have 10 days off before returning to action on Saturday, Nov. 28 at New Hampshire.
