DURHAM, N.H. - The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 72-58 loss at New Hampshire in a non-conference contest on Saturday. Red-shirt junior guard Candon Rusin (Surf City, N.C.) scored 11 points apiece to lead the Red Foxes, who outscored the Wildcats 38-33 in the second half.
Goodwin also led the Red Foxes with six rebounds, and went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Rusin shot 5-for-10 from the field, and hit a three-pointer. Freshman guard Sam Prescott (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave the Red Foxes three double-digit scorers with 10 points. Prescott added five rebounds and a team-high three assists, and hit both of his three-point attempts.
Dane DiLiegro led New Hampshire with 27 points, with 21 coming in the first half. DiLiegro shot 11-for-19 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, and also hauled in eight rebounds. Alvin Abreu scored 15, and Radar Onguetou had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
A free throw by freshman forward Rob Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.) gave Marist a 7-4 lead with 16:04 left in the first half. However, New Hampshire then went on a 14-0 run over the next 6:17, which included four baskets by DiLiegro. Marist cut the lead to seven, but the Wildcats outscored the Red Foxes 18-6 over the final 8:11 of the half to take a 19-point lead into the locker room.
Marist shot .362 from the field, while New Hampshire shot .426. New Hampshire outrebounded Marist 42-36, while the Red Foxes committed 18 turnovers to the Wildcats' 13.
Marist fell to 0-3 with the loss; New Hampshire improved to 2-2.
The Red Foxes will return to action with a non-conference contest at Holy Cross on Monday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
