POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team sent its three seniors out with a 3-0 win over Siena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest at Tenney Stadium on Friday night. Senior Kevin Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) scored his second career goal in the second half, as the Red Foxes earned its first season with a winning percentage of .500 or greater since 2005.
Freshman Stephan Brossard (Port Washington, N.Y.) tallied a goal and two assists in the match, while sophomore Krystian Witkowski (Rochester, N.Y.) added a goal. Brossard finished the season as the team's leader in points with 18, behind seven goals and four assists.
Marist opened the scoring in the fifth minute and never looked back. Brossard took a pass from junior Joe Touloumis (Cranford, N.J.) and beat the defender to the goal. Touloumis headed the pass in from 35 yards out, and Brossard finished the play from eight yards away.
The Red Foxes added a second goal in the 27th minute, as Witkowski took a shot from the top of the box on the left flank that beat Siena goalkeeper, Phil Chabot. Witkowski finished his sophomore season with four goals.
Brown added an insurance goal 46 seconds into the second half. He took a through ball from Brossard and beat the keeper to the far post.
Defensively, junior Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) made six stops for his sixth shutout this season. Pilla finished with the most shutouts in a single season by a Marist goalkeeper since the 2004 campaign when Mike Valenti posted eight clean sheets.
In the match Marist was outshot 17-10, but the Red Foxes were more accurate with their attempts as they put six on goal.
Marist concludes the 2009 season with a record of 8-8-2, the most wins in a season under head coach Matt Viggiano.
