Marist Rallies In Second Half To Take Down Northeastern 76-69

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Trailing by two points with 9:23 to go Tuesday night at the McCann Center, the Marist women's basketball team went on a 14-3 run over the next 3:50 to take the lead and pull away from Northeastern, winning 76-69. Rachele Fitz (Seven Hills, Ohio), Erica Allenspach (Miamisburg, Ohio) scored all the points in the run to give the Red Foxes' their third straight win.

The trio each scored over 20 points in the game. Fitz led all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds while tying a career-high with four blocked shots. Allenspach scored 21 points, all in the second half. She tied a career-high with nine rebounds and was also 6-for-6 from the three-point line, setting a new career-high for made threes. Yarde added 20 points and eight rebounds. This is the first time Marist has had three players score 20 points or more since Jan. 21, 2008 when Fitz, Allenspach, and Julianne Viani each scored 20 in a 93-65 win over Canisius at the McCann Center.

Northeastern (5-5) controlled the early part of the first half, taking a 12-7 lead at the 11:40 mark on a Kashaia Cannon three-pointer. Marist (7-4) responded with a 10-0 run, highlighted by threes from Lynzee Johnson (Bellbrook, Ohio) and Maria Laterza (Brooklyn, N.Y.), to go ahead 17-12 with 9:02 left in the first. The Red Foxes led 19-14 with 7:50 to go in the half when the Huskies got a Jamie Conroy basket and a Rachael Pecota three to go ahead 20-10 with 6:28 left. A Fitz layup kickstarted a 7-1 run for Marist, giving the home team a 26-21 lead at the 3:41 mark. Northeastern tied the game at 26-26 with another Pecota triple at the 3:11 mark. The Huskies ended the half on a 5-0 run to take a 31-28 lead going into halftime.

Marist opened the second half on an 8-4 run, capped off by an Allenspach three-pointer, to take a 36-35 lead with 18:29 to go. Northeastern then went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 40-36 with 17:47 left in the game. The Huskies grew their lead to six at the 13:13 mark on a Cannon three, making the score 48-42. Marist then got back-to-back threes from Allenspach and Elise Caron (Quebec, Canada) to the game 48-48. The two teams then traded baskets, with Northeastern take a 52-50 lead with 9:23 to go. That's when the Red Foxes started their 14-3 run to go ahead 64-55 with 5:33 to go. The lead grew to 12 with 3:18 to go as Allenspach made her sixth three of the game, making the score 72-60 and putting the game away.

The Red Foxes shot 45.9% from the field for the game and 60.7% in the second half alone. Marist made nine of its 11 three-pointers in the second half and shot 40.7% from beyond the arc. Northeastern shot 33.8% from the field and only 30.2% from three-point distance. Brittany Wilson led the Huskies with 18 points as Kendra Walton added 16 points and nine rebounds.
