POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - Ryan Schneider and Dejuan Goodwin each scored 17 points, and Marist led wire-to-wire in a 75-66 victory over Fairfield on Thursday night.
Marist (8-19, 4-11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) had shot just .293 (36-for-123) from 3-point range in its previous six games, but the Red Foxes broke out of their long-range slump against Fairfield (15-11, 8-7).
Goodwin and Schneider combined to hit nine of 16 from beyond the arc, and the Red Foxes dominated the glass in the opening half, outrebounding Fairfield 25-6 and taking a 39-25 lead into the break.
Two free throws by Alex Vouyoukas gave Marist a commanding 61-41 lead with 8:26 to play, the Red Foxes' largest lead of the game.
Goodwin's point total was a career high. He shot 5-for-9 from three-point range. Kaylen Gregory added nine points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Herbie Allen had 21 points to lead Fairfield, and Mike Evanovich added 18 but made just 2 of 13 from 3-point range. The Stags had zero turnovers in the game.
Marist returns to action on Monday, when the Red Foxes take on Saint Peter's on Monday at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on MSG. In the first meeting this year between Marist and Saint Peter's, the Red Foxes prevailed by a score of 60-54 at the McCann Center on Jan. 2.
