HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team opened the spring season Saturday morning in a road dual meet with the Colgate Red Raiders. Despite a tight doubles match and a three-set fifth singles match, the Red Foxes fell in to the Red Raiders 7-0.
On the doubles side, freshman Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) and senior co-captain Mirelva Colon (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) teamed up in the first slot to face Elise DeRose and Cameron Williams. The Red Foxes dropped the pro-set, 9-7.
At fifth singles, sophomore Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) took Cameron Thaney to three sets after Lukin won the first by the score of 6-3. Thaney came back to win the second and third sets, and take the match, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
The Red Foxes will return to action on March 1 at Albany. In the fall the two teams met and the Great Danes defeated the Red Foxes 5-2, during the Marist Invitational.
