BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball team suffered a 75-49 road loss to Canisius in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Friday at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Red Foxes trailed by 20 points at halftime, and never got closer than 13 points in the second half. Red-shirt senior forward Ryan Schneider (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes in points (12) and rebounds (seven).
Marist got off to a fast start, taking an 8-4 lead at the 16:56 mark on a basket by sophomore forward Korey Bauer (Whitehall, Pa.). However, Canisius went on a 25-2 run over the next 11:35 of the first half to seize control of the game.
For the game, Marist shot just .321 (18-for-56) from the field and .222 (4-for-18) from three-point range. The Red Foxes were outrebounded by a count 46-27.
Canisius closed the game on an 11-0 run over the final 4:28.
Bauer and red-shirt sophomore guard Dejuan Goodwin (Baltimore, Md.) each finished with seven points and four rebounds.
Four Golden Griffins finished with double-digits points, led by Greg Logins and Frank Turner, who finished with 16 apiece. Turner also dished out a game-high seven assists. Julius Coles had a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, and Tomas Vazquez-Simmons added 13.
Marist fell to 9-21 overall and 4-13 in the MAAC, while Canisius improved to 10-18 overall and 4-13 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes will close out the regular season on Sunday, as they continue their road trip by facing Niagara at the Gallagher Center.
