NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) -Scott Machado scored five of his 15 points in overtime and Iona ended a three-game losing streak by defeating Marist 66-65 on Saturday.
The Gaels (11-13, 6-7 Metro Atlantic) never trailed after Rashon Dwight scored the first basket of the extra session. Machado, who had 10 assists, made one of two free throws with 25.6 seconds to go to send the game into overtime tied at 56.
Ryan Schneider had 21 points and 11 rebounds, Lawrence Williams scored 14 points and David Devezin 10 for the Red Foxes (7-18, 3-10).
Iona led 55-52 with 3:04 left in regulation after Trinity Fields hit a 3-pointer, but Marist knotted the score on a three by Schneider and then went ahead 56-55 on a free throw by Williams with 33.7 seconds remaining. Iona tied the score seven seconds later when Machado split a pair of free throws. On the last possession of regulation, Schneider caught a pass on the left wing, faked to his right to get open, and launched a three that bounced off the rim as time expired.
Schneider had his fifth double-double of the season, and scored all nine of Marist's points in the overtime period. He also played a game-high 43 minutes.
