Fitz Breaks Marist's Career Field Goals Record As Marist Defeats Loyola 86-53

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Junior forward Rachele Fitz (Seven Hills, Ohio) passed Ursula Winter for Marist's all-time field goals made record on Sunday at the McCann Center, making 8-of-11 shots from the field on her way to 18 points as the Red Foxes defeated Loyola 86-53. Fitz now has made 608 field goals in her career, passing Winter's mark of 606. Fitz also led all players with nine rebounds.

Three other Marist players scored in double-figures on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Erica Allenspach (Miamisburg, Ohio) and Lynzee Johnson (Bellbrook, Ohio) each had five assists to lead all players. Best's five assists tie a career-high and Johnson's five are a career-high for the junior.

Marist (21-3, 12-2 MAAC) dominated the game from the opening tap. The Red Foxes opened the game on a 12-0 run over the first 15:39 highlighted by five points from Fitz and an Élise Caron (Quebec, Canada) three-pointer. A Candice Walker jumper ended the Marist run. After a Siobhan Prior three-pointer got the Greyhounds within 10, 18-8, with 11:19 to go in the first half, a Brandy Gang (Hartville, Ohio) layup sparked a 13-0 run over the next 4:39 to give the Red Foxes a 31-8 lead. Marist also got baskets from Yarde, Johnson, and Fitz during the run as well as a pair of Viani free throws. Marist took its largest lead of the first half at the 5:09 mark when Best knocked down a jumper in transition to put the Red Foxes ahead 35-10. Loyola got three-pointers from Walker and Ashley Alexander late in the half to make the halftime score 44-24.

Loyola (8-15, 3-10 MAAC) went on a 7-4 spurt to start the second half as a Prior three put the Greyhounds within 17, 48-31, with 18:29 to go in the game. This was as close as the Greyhounds would get. After Prior's three Marist went on an 8-0 run capped by a Maria Laterza (Brooklyn, N.Y.) basket to go ahead 56-31 with 15:43 to go. The Red Foxes extended the lead to 30 with 9:19 to go as Allenspach made a fast break layup to make the score 69-30. Marist took its largest lead of the game with 26 seconds left as Emily Stallings (Newburgh, N.Y.) made the Red Foxes' last basket to make the final score 86-53.

The Red Foxes shot 54.8 percent from the field in Sunday's win over Loyola, scoring 46 points in the paint. Loyola shot 31.7% from the field. Marist outrebounded the Greyhounds 49-29 and assisted on 27 of its 34 made field goals. Prior and Alexander each scored 14 points to lead Loyola. Walker added nine points off the bench.

Marist will open a three-game road trip on Thursday night with a 7 p.m. game at Fairfield. The Stags are currently 11-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, a half-game back of the Red Foxes.
