NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team fell in their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual meet on Sunday morning at Niagara, 6-1. The Red Foxes got wins at first doubles and sixth singles.
On the doubles side of the match, freshman Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) and senior Mirelva Colon (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) cruised past Alyssa Lucas and Raquel Solis, 8-3. However, it would be the only doubles match the team would win, which gave Niagara the doubles point.
In singles, the Red Foxes got a victory from sophomore Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) at the sixth spot in the lineup. She won in straight sets and took two tiebreakers from Emma Cunnington, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3).
With the loss the Red Foxes fell to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC.
The Red Foxes are back in action on Tuesday, March 31 at 5 p.m. when they host a MAAC dual match against Manhattan. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
