WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team took on Quinnipiac of the Northeast Conference in a dual match on Saturday evening at West Point. The Red Foxes fell 7-0 in the match, despite getting a win at second doubles from senior Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) and sophomore Retta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.).
Quinnipiac won the doubles point by earning wins at the first and third spots in the lineup. Zampello and Byron defeated Natalie Duckor and Shawna Sarson, 8-3. Head coach Roge Nesbitt said the team put fourth a great effort to get the win.
"Zampello and Byron both really worked hard to put points away at the net," she said. "Everyone played really hard today."
On the singles side of the match, Byron fell to Sarson at the fourth slot 6-4, 6-0; however, the final score was not indicative of the way that the Scottsdale, Ariz. Native played in the match.
Marist will return to action on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. when the Red Foxes take on Army at the Litchburg Tennis Center at West Point.
