NORFOLK, Va. - The Marist baseball team suffered a 6-3 loss in the finale of a three-game series at Norfolk State on Sunday. The Red Foxes scored all three of their runs in the top of the ninth inning, and brought the tying run to the plate before their rally came to an end.
Senior catcher Andrew Stanton (Delmar, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes by going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman designated hitter George Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) had a two-run single in the ninth inning.
Junior right-hander B.J. Martin (Manalapan, N.J.) took the loss (1-1) for Marist, allowing five runs (four earned) in 5.1 innings. Martin allowed eight hits and just one walk while striking out five. Senior left-hander Peter Barone (Hauppauge, N.Y.) allowed one run in the next 1.2 innings, and freshman right-hander Jake Rifkin (West Deptford, N.J.) tossed a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts.
Marist now stands at 6-3 on the season. The Red Foxes have taken two out of three in their first three series of the season.
Marist will return to action on Tuesday, when the Red Foxes play at Holy Cross. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
