POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team wrapped up its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season with a 4-3 record as the squad defeated the Rider Broncs, 6-1 at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Foxes swept the doubles easily, with the closest matches set score, 8-3 in the second doubles spot.
At first singles, freshman Kayla O'Donovan (Lynbrook, N.Y.) both surrendered just one game to their Rider counterpart. Byron defeated Danielle White, 6-0, 6-1, while O'Donovan bested Allison Clay, 6-1, 6-0.
Marist also swept the doubles point. McCarthy and senior Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) prevailed White and Tricia Ashmore, 8-3. In the final doubles match, Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) and Joanna Macaluso (Stormville, N.Y.) defeated Allison Clay and Katie Garrity, 8-1.
Marist will return to action on Tuesday, April 14 as the Red Foxes host the Hofstra Pride for Senior Day. A ceremony honoring the two graduating seniors from the program will be held prior to the 6 p.m. first serve.
