Melissa Giordano Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA First-Team All-Region

May 14, 2009

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Senior Melissa Giordano (Stamford, Conn.) of the Marist softball team was named First-Team All-Region in the Northeast by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Assoication (NFCA) on Thursday morning. This is the third individual accolade for Giordano this postseason, after she was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year and First Team Academic All-District by ESPN The Magazine as selected by CoSIDA.

Giordano led the Red Foxes and the MAAC in batting average, on-base percentage, hits, runs, and doubles. Her totals in batting average (.429) and doubles, (19) were single-season highs in the Marist record book. Additionally, she became the first player in Marist history to amass over 200 career hits, as she ranks first in batting average, doubles, hits, and at bats in the Red Foxes' career record books.

The All-Region accolade puts her in the running to be an All-American. She is also eligible to be an Academic All-American after she was named First Team All-District last Thursday.

Marist completed the 2009 season with a record of 16-33 and 9-7 in the MAAC.
