Men's Soccer Comes From Behind To Defeat Drexel, 2-1

Sept. 12, 2009

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The Marist men's soccer team erased a one goal deficit at Drexel on Saturday, and scored two goals less than six minutes apart to defeat the Dragons 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Joe Touloumis (Cranford, N.J.) scored the game-winner, his second in as many matches.

Red-shirt junior goalkeeper Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) remained firm between the pipes for the Red Foxes. He made six saves on the day, including four in the first half.

"The guys showed a lot of character to come back on the road," head coach Matt Viggiano said. "This is a really good win for us against a quality team."

With the Dragons up 1-0 in the 69th minute, Brossard beat Drexel goalkeeper Alex Reber one-on-one as he chipped a shot over his head to even the score at one. In the 75th minute, Touloumis notched his second goal in as many games. He took a low shot that got past Reber, to put the game away for the Red Foxes.

Marist (3-0-1) had more corners than its opponent, a 5-3 advantage. In the second half the Red Foxes took three corners to the Dragons zero. Each team put seven shots on goal.

Marist will return to action on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. The Red Foxes will play game three of their seven-game road swing against the Fordham Rams.
