POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team kicked off a three-game homestand on Sunday with a 3-0 win at the hands of the Lafayette Leopards. Junior Amy Tillotson (Islip, N.Y.) and Jackie Frey (Monroe, N.Y.) each scored a goal and an assist in the match. Freshman Caitlin Landsman (Burke, Va.) earned a shutout in goal in her first career start.
The Red Foxes controlled the match, and outshout their opponents 23-5, including a 13-1 margin in the first half. Marist also had eight corner kicks to Lafayette's one in the match.
Marist (3-3-1) opened the scoring in the 43rd minute as Frey took a feed from Tillotson, and scored from eight yards out to give the home team a 1-0 lead at halftime. It was Frey's scored her second game-winning goal of the year; her first tally since the season opener against Youngstown State.
The Red Foxes added an insurance goal in the 47th minute. Junior Kate Fox (Franklin, Mass.) scored off a Merrilynn Esteve (Morristown, N.J.) cross from the right side. Fox has five goals on the year. She wrapped up the game with four shots on goal to lead all players.
Tillotson added a third goal in the 77th minute off a pass near the end line from Frey. Tillotson has two goals this season, and Frey's first collegiate assist.
Defensively, Landsman made two saves in goal for her first career shutout. Both of her stops came in the second half.
Marist will open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on Friday, Sept. 25. The Red Foxes will host Manhattan in the conference opener for both teams. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m., at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
