Red Foxes Extend Winning Streak To Three, Defeat Jaspers 1-0

Sept. 25, 2009

Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team won its third straight match and is unbeaten in its last four as the team defeated Manhattan, 1-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Freshman Jamie Balzarini (Holbrook, N.Y.) made four saves in the match.

Sabia collected a loose ball from approximately 17 yards from the goal at the left flank. She put the ball inside of the far post, beyond the reach of Manhattan keeper Kara Davis.

The Red Foxes took seven shots on goal. They were taken by seven different players in the match.

Defensively, Marist withstood a flurry of four straight corner kicks by Manhattan in a span of 1:11. Though the Jaspers never developed a shot from the chances, Balzarini punched a number of the chances out of play, resulting in the ensuing corners.

With the win, the Red Foxes improved to 4-3-1 overall, and 1-0 in the MAAC. Marist will return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m., as it plays host to the Saint Peter's Peahens at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
