Marist Suffers 17-16 Setback At Bucknell

Sept. 26, 2009

Box Score

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Marist football team suffered a 17-16 loss at Bucknell in a non-league contest on Saturday. Senior running back O'Neil Anderson (Dorchester, Mass.) ran for a career-high 133 yards on 31 carries, and sophomore quarterback Tommy Reilly (Marlton, N.J.) was 24-for-32 for 237 yards passing and two interceptions.

The Red Foxes held the ball for 41:24, as compared to 18:36 for Bucknell. Marist also outgained Bucknell 368-168.

The score was tied at seven apiece entering the fourth quarter until freshman Jason Myers (Chula Vista, Calif.) booted a 31-yard field goal to give the Red Foxes a 10-7 advantage with 10:39 remaining. With 4:54 remaining, a 33-yard field goal by Bucknell's Drew Orth tied the score at 10 apiece.

Just 53 seconds later, a Reilly fumble was recovered by Bucknell's Robert De La Rosa at the Marist 15. Four plays later, a three-yard touchdown run by Bucknell quarterback Marcello Trigg gave Bucknell a 17-10 advantage with 1:51 to play.

Marist sophomore Joseph DeSimone (Bronx, N.Y.) moved the ball to the Bucknell four, and Anderson scored a two-yard touchdown two plays later to cut Bucknell's lead to 17-16. Myers' extra-point attempt was blocked by Michael Tonge.

The Red Foxes got another chance when they recovered Myers' onside kick at the Marist 43. A 28-yard pass from Reilly to senior wide receiver James LaMacchia (Bronx, N.Y.) on the fourth play of the drive moved the ball the Bucknell 11. After a one-yard run by Anderson moved the ball to the center of the field, and the Red Foxes called time out with five seconds to play. However, Myers' 28-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right as time expired.

LaMacchia caught eight passes for 127 yards, and sophomore wide receiver R.J. Roe (Lacey Township, N.J.) had seven receptions for 39 yards.

Senior linebacker Kevin Foley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with eight tackles. Junior linebacker Kees Coughlin (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added five stops, including one for a loss. Senior linebacker Nick Andre (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had three tackles and an interception.

Travis Nissley led Bucknell (2-2) with 12 tackles. Offensively for the Bison, A.J. Kizekai ran for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Marist (1-3) returns home next Saturday for a Pioneer Football League contest against Campbell. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
