POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with the Hartwick Hawks on Friday night at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Red-shirt junior Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) made four saves in goal for the Red Foxes, and earned his second straight shutout to start his Marist career.
Sophomore Josh Lavorato (Rochester, N.Y.) also took a shot.
Witkowski's best chance of the match came in the fifth minute, when he ripped a shot off his right foot from the left flank. Hartwick goalkeeper Jeremy Vuolo was there to make the save.
The Marist defense withstood its most significant pressure of the night in the 64th minute. Sam Wright put a shot on net from the right side. As Pilla turned the deflection aside, the ball found the head of Hartwick's Steven Amaya. He missed the header wide left.
Marist is off to its best start since the 2003 season. Both teams began their respective campaigns with 1-0-1 marks.
The Red Foxes will kick-off a seven-game road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 8, as they travel to West Point for a matchup with the Black Knights of Army. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
