POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - For the third straight week, junior diver Brian Bolstad (Highland, N.Y.) set a school record, his fourth over that span. Bolstad's score of 338.92 on the 1-meter board broke the old record of 322.87, which he set just a week earlier. As a team, Marist fell to Seton Hall 159-137 at the McCann Center Natatorium on Saturday in its final dual meet of the season.
Senior Mitchell Katz (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) placed second in the 1-meter event with a score of 311.62. In taking the top two spots, both Bolstad and Katz qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
Bolstad, who has been named the MAAC Men's Diver of the Week six times this season, continued his dominance on the 3-meter board, winning with a score of 333.53 and improving his record to 10-0 in the event this season. Katz gave the Red Foxes a sweep in both diving events by taking second on the 3-meter board with a score of 307.20. It was the 10th time this season that Bolstad and Katz have placed first and second on the 3-meter board.
After Seton Hall won the first five events, Marist sophomore Kevin Shoemaker (Saucon Valley, Pa.) broke through for the Red Foxes, as he won the 200-yd. butterfly with a time of 1:54.50. He picked up a second victory in the 100-yd. butterfly with a time of 51.94 seconds.
Junior Keith Miller (Missoula, Mont.), senior Kevin Quinn (Neponsit, N.Y.), junior Steven Vendetta (South Windsor, Conn.) and junior Joshua Sklanka (Watertown, N.Y.) gave Marist a third win, touching first in the 400-yd. freestyle relay with a time of 3:13.70.
Freshman Charles Pataffi (Middletown, Conn.) narrowly missed picking up a fourth win for the Red Foxes when he was out-touched by Seton Hall's Stanislav Sadovski by three one-hundredths of a second in the 50-yd. freestyle. Sadovski won the event with a time of 21.99 seconds.
Marist will return to the pool for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships from Feb. 11-13 at the Mangione Aquatic Center on the campus of Loyola University.
