POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist men's basketball dropped its third straight game on Saturday, as the Red Foxes were defeated by Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Canisius by a score of 72-57 at the McCann Center. Freshman guard Devin Price (Inglewood, Calif.) led the Red Foxes in scoring with a career-high 15 points.
The Red Foxes had three scorers in double digits. In addition to Price, red-shirt junior guard Daye Kaba (Cergy, France) and freshman guard Candon Rusin (Surf City, N.C.) each finished with 11 apiece. Junior forward Korey Bauer (Whitehall, Pa.) collected a team-high seven rebounds.
Canisius' Elton Frazier had a double-double with game highs for 25 points and 10 rebounds. Frazier shot 9-for-11 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Frank Turner added 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Golden Griffins. Turner shot 7-for-10 from the field, 2-for-3 from three-point range and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.
Canisius outrebounded Marist by a margin of 38-25. The Golden Griffins collected 14 offensive boards, with Frazier grabbing six.
Marist scored the first four points of the game, but Canisius scored the next nine to take a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the evening. A jumper by sophomore guard Mike Taylor (Los Angeles, Calif.) cut the Golden Griffins' lead to 17-13 with 11:07 to play in the first half, but Canisius answered with a 14-2 run over the next 5:14 to take a 16-point lead. A three-point play by Turner in the closing seconds of the half enabled Canisius to take a 40-23 halftime lead.
Canisius' largest lead of the second half was 20, which came on a layup by Julius Coles to make the score 50-30 with 15:01 to go. The Red Foxes clawed back into the game by going on a 20-10 spurt over the next 8:03, a stretch that culminated in a three-pointer by Kaba. However, on the next possession, Canisius' Greg Logins hit a three-pointer to put the Golden Griffins ahead 63-50. The Golden Griffins never led by less than 14 the rest of the way.
Marist fell to 1-14 overall and 1-4 in MAAC play. Canisius is now 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the MAAC.
