JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Marist volleyball team swept Saint Peter's, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19) on Sunday afternoon behind a match-high 13 kills and 14 digs by freshman Grace Hill (Portage, Mich.) and nine kills by junior Leeann Harridsleff (Simi Valley, Calif.). The Red Foxes have now won five straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matches and seven of their last eight.
Marist (12-10, 7-3 MAAC) won the first set behind three kills apiece by sophomore Katie Estes (Saugus, Calif.) and Hill. The Red Foxes never trailed in the set as they closed out the 25-16 victory by scoring six of the last seven points in the game.
The Red Foxes picked up where they left off to start the second set, taking a commanding 8-0 lead over the Peahens. Marist extended its lead to 18-5 before closing out the 25-14 victory to hold a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Saint Peter's (6-15, 2-8 MAAC) tied up the game at 6-6 as it looked to extend the match. But Marist continued its strong hitting as it took a 12-8 lead and would not look back, winning the third set 25-19 to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Senior Allie Burke (Alpharetta, Ga.) added seven kills for Marist while committing just one error for a .600 hitting percentage. Hill finished with her ninth double-double of the season for Marist.
For the match, Marist held a 40-17 advantage in kills over the Peahens in addition to a 43-33 edge in digs.
Marist looks to extend its winning streak next weekend when it returns home to take on Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, October 23 at 2 p.m.
