POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Saint Peter's Peacocks in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on Friday night. The Red Foxes outshot the Peacocks 24-10, but Stephen Carty got the lone goal for Saint Peter's (8-4-1,4-0-1 MAAC) in the match.
In the 78th minute, Carty finished on a rebound off a Mauricio Jimenez shot from inside the six-yard box.
The game was extremely physical as St. Peter's was called for 22 fouls and three yellow cards. Marist was called for 11 fouls and four yellow cards. Marist (6-7, 1-3 MAAC) played the last 9:53 of the match with a man advantage on Saint Peter's, but could not find the back of the net.
Junior Stephan Brossard (Port Washington, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with five shots. In the 16th minute, Brossard hit the crossbar off a solid strike from about 25 yards out.
With exactly 13 minutes to play in the second half, freshman Gerry Ceja (Port Chester, N.Y.) received a cross and headed the ball right at Peacocks' goalkeeper Tyler Clarhaut. He made seven saves in the Saint Peter's shutout.
For the match, Marist held advantages in nearly every statistical category, except goals. The Red Foxes edged the Peacocks in corner kicks 6-5. A physical tilt, seven cards were issued in the contest.
Marist will round out the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. The Red Foxes will host Manhattan in a MAAC match at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
