LaMacchia, Foley Set Records, But Marist Falls At Jacksonville 56-14

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior wide receiver James LaMacchia (Bronx, N.Y.) set the Marist football program record for career receiving yards, and senior free safety Rory Foley (West Roxbury, Mass.) set the Red Foxes' Division I record for career tackles, but Marist suffered a 56-14 loss to Jacksonville in a Pioneer Football League game on Saturday.

LaMacchia broke the record - which was previously 2,019 yards by Guy Smith - on Marist's first offensive play, when he caught a 12-yard pass from junior quarterback John Healy III - - on Jacksonville's first offensive play of the second quarter.

The Dolphins took the opening kickoff and marched 87 yards down the field in 12 plays, capping the drive with a one-yard scoring run by Rudell Small. On Jacksonville's next possession, J.J. Laster scored on the drive's first play, a 71-yard run which gave the Dolphins a 14-0 lead with 7:33 remaining in the first quarter.

Marist answered on the ensuing drive with Reilly threw a 60-yard touchdown to junior wide receiver Kevin Fitzpatrick (Columbia, Md.), which cut the Red Foxes' deficit in half with 5:53 left in the first quarter. The game remained 14-7 until the 3:04 mark of the second quarter, when Small capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive with another one-yard touchdown. Then, just 22 seconds before halftime, Laster scored his second touchdown of the day on a three-yard run to give Jacksonville a 28-7 lead.

With a pair of touchdowns apiece in the third and fourth quarters, the Dolphins ran their lead to 56-7 before freshman quarterback Joseph DeSimone (Bronx, N.Y.) for an 18-yard touchdown pass to close out the scoring.

Foley led the Red Foxes with 12 tackles (seven solo) and added a pass break-up, while sophomore linebacker Tyler Ramsey (Southbridge, Mass.) added 10. LaMacchia led the Marist receivers with seven receptions for 66 yards. Reilly went 9-for-23 for 114 yards and a touchdown passing before giving way to Looney, who was 5-for-10 for 88 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Junior Matt Gray (Hillsdale, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with 29 rushing yards on four carries.

Marist held Jacksonville's high-powered passing game to 144 yards, but the Dolphins ran for 433 yards on 47 attempts. Laster finished with 177 yards on 11 carries and two scores, while Small ran for 168 rushing yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. Small also caught four passes for 53 yards. Defensively, Rolando Fines had a team-best five tackles, and Jordan Dewhirst returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Marist fell to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the PFL, while Jacksonville is now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in league play. The Red Foxes return to action next Saturday, when they head back to the road to take on Campbell in a PFL contest. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
