Marist Falls At Wake Forest In Finale Of 2010 Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In its final game of the 2010 Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off, the Marist men's basketball team fell at Wake Forest of the Atlantic Coast Conference by a score of 81-59. The first half featured six lead changes and seven ties, but the Demon Deacons seized the lead for good by outscoring the Red Foxes 19-5 over the final seven-and-a-half minutes of the first half.

Red-shirt freshman guard/forward Rob Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.) had nine points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Korey Bauer (Whitehall, Pa.) grabbed eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Red-shirt senior guard Dejuan Goodwin (Baltimore, Md.) had a team-high three assists and no turnovers in 25 minutes.

The first 10 minutes of the game included six ties and five lead changes. With 9:23 left in the first half, a three-pointer by sophomore guard Sam Prescott (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave the Red Foxes their largest lead to that point at 22-19. After a free throw by Wake Forest's T.J. Terrell tied the score at 22 all with eight minutes left in the half, a pair of free throws by junior guard R.J. Hall (East Orange, N.J.) gave the Red Foxes a 24-22 lead 20 seconds later. However, on Wake Forest's next possession, C.J. Harris drained a three-pointer, and the Demon Deacons did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the contest.

Wake Forest took a 41-29 halftime lead, and then began the second half on a 13-3 run. Between the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half, Marist went 11:06 without a field goal. The Demon Deacons' largest lead of the second half was 25.

Marist outrebounded Wake Forest by a 47-41 margin, and the Red Foxes collected 16 offensive rebounds. Marist shot just .300 (18-for-60) from the field, but held Wake Forest to .352 (19-for-54) shooting. There were a total of 50 fouls in the game, with 29 being whistled against the Red Foxes.

Terrell and Travis McKie paced Wake Forest with 16 points apiece, and McKie had a game-high 11 rebounds. Seven-footer Ty Walker had 11 blocked shots.

Marist (0-5) will play its home opener on Saturday, Nov. 27 when the Red Foxes host UC Irvine in a return game from last year's ESPN BracketBusters contest. Tip-off at the McCann Center is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased here.
