Box Score

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball team lost to Canisius 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-23) in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match on Saturday. Senior Lindsey Schmid (Austin, Texas) paced the Red Foxes with seven service aces, 11 kills, and five total blocks.

Freshman Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) had a match-high 16 digs.

Marist (12-15, 7-8 MAAC) got off to a slow start, trailing Canisius 11-6 at its first timeout. The Golden Griffins continued to hold a comfortable lead until three consecutive service aces from Schmid brought the Red Foxes to within three, down 20-17. However, Marist was unable to take the lead, and lost the first set 25-22.

Canisius (15-13, 11-5 MAAC) spotted Marist an early three-point lead in second set before tying it up at five apiece. The teams would see four more tie scores before the Golden Griffins went on an 8-2 run to lead Marist 18-12. After a kill by Schmid, she answered with another trio of service aces to bring the score to 18-16. Again, Marist could not find its way to the top, and fell 25-20 in the set and down 2-0 in the match.

The third and final set was closely contested with 11 ties and four lead changes. After having a four-point deficit at 16-12, Marist tied the match 17-17 with Brosky and Lutjen both contributing service aces. From there, the Red Foxes found themselves on top 23-21, but could not hold on and ultimately lost the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

For Canisius, Samantha Good had 10 kills while Janelle Davis added 22 assists. Allyson Severyn contributed 11 digs for the Golden Griffins.

Marist continues its road trip tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 7, at Niagara. When the teams met on Sept. 18, the Red Foxes fell to the Purple Eagles 3-1.
