Box Score

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball team lost to Niagara (25-18, 25-23, 25-15) in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match on Sunday. Senior Lindsey Schmid (Austin, Texas) led the Red Foxes with 11 kills and two total blocks in the match.

Marist received 13 digs apiece from senior Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) and junior Stephanie Robinett (Sugarland, Texas), as well as 22 assists from freshman Gabby Lutjen (Smithtown, N.Y.). Robinett and Lutjen also added two service aces each.

Marist (12-16, 7-9 MAAC) began the match down 5-0 in the first set, but a service ace from Schmid would bring the Red Foxes within two points at 9-7. The Red Foxes trailed by two again at 19-17 after a block by Lutjen, but that was the closest they would come to the Purple Eagles as they lost the first set 25-18.

After a pair of kills from Schmid and a service ace from Lutjen tied the second set 7-7, Niagara (21-8, 16-1 MAAC) went on a 10-3 run to put Marist down 17-10. The Red Foxes climbed back to a 22-20 advantage following another Lutjen service ace and block assist from Schmid and junior Leeann Harridsleff (Simi Valley, Calif.), before ultimately dropping the second set 25-23.

There were five ties early in the third set, with the teams poised at 10 points apiece before Niagara scored six straight points to make it 16-10. The Purple Eagles would not look back, and the Red Foxes fell 25-15, losing the match 3-0.

For Niagara, Hannah Hedrick tallied 12 kills, Sam Morgan had 14 digs, and Michelle James added 33 assists.

Marist returns for its last home match of the season on Saturday, Nov. 13, against Fairfield on Senior Day. In addition to Brosky and Schmid, fellow seniors Allie Burke (Alpharetta, Ga.), and Raeanna Gutkowski (Long Valley, N.J.)will be honored prior to the start of Saturday's match.
