RIVERDALE, N.Y. -- The Marist men's basketball team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) road game to Manhattan on Friday night by a score of 72-47. Three Red Foxes scored in double digits, led by freshman guard Candon Rusin (Surf City, N.C.), who had 12.
Red-shirt junior guard Daye Kaba (Cergy, France) had 11 to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Junior forward Korey Bauer (Whitehall, Pa.) added 10.
Manhattan's Darryl Crawford led all scorers with 20, shooting 8-for-15 from the field and hitting two three-pointers in just 21 minutes. Rico Pickett and George Beamon added 13 apiece off the bench for the Jaspers.
Manahttan led the game wire-to-wire, and led by as much as 15 in the first half. A three-point play by Beamon with 4:34 left until halftime put the Jaspers up 25-10. However, the Red Foxes clawed back, and when Rusin hit a 35-foot bank shot at the buzzer, Marist trailed 29-22 entering halftime.
However, Manhattan began the second half on a 12-0 run, and never led by less than 12 the rest of the way. The Jaspers grew their lead to as much as 27. Manhattan shot .667 (16-for-24) from the field in the second half and outscored the Red Foxes 43-25. Meanwhile, the Red Foxes shot just .300 (6-for-20) in the second half and did not hit a field goal in the first 6:22 of the half.
Marist fell to 1-22 overall and 1-12 in the MAAC. Manhattan is now 8-15 overall and 3-10 in the MAAC.
Marist returns to action on Sunday, as the Red Foxes will battle Iona for the second time in 11 days, with this meeting taking place at the McCann Center. The contest will tip off at 2 p.m. and will be televised locally on Time Warner Cable 6. Tickets can be purchased online at GoRedFoxes.com.
