Box Score

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Marist baseball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday, as the Red Foxes suffered an 8-6 loss to Saint Joseph's in the Big 5 Tournament. Six Red Foxes enjoyed multi-hit games, and Marist had 15 hits as a team.

Senior right fielder Ryan Gauck (Clifton Park, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Red-shirt junior designated hitter Bryce Nugent (Binghamton, N.Y.), sophomore third baseman Jon Schwind (Hilton, N.Y.), sophomore catcher John Prano (Oviedo, Fla.) each had two hits. Prano added two RBIs and a run scored.

Saint Joseph's scored first with a single run in its half of the second, but Marist erupted for four in the top of the fourth. All of the Red Foxes' runs came with two outs, as Prano's two-run triple got Marist on the scoreboard. Senior shortstop Richard Curylo (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in Prano with a single, and then proceeded to steal second. He scored the Red Foxes' fourth run in the inning when he came home on a triple by Gauck.

However, Saint Joseph's took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, and added to its lead by scoring twice in the seventh and once in the eighth.

Trailing 8-4 entering the ninth, the Red Foxes mounted one final rally. An RBI single by freshman right fielder Shane Matthews (Saratoga, N.Y.) to make it 8-5. Luderer then scored on a balk to make it 8-6 with the tying run at the plate, but the Red Foxes came no closer.

Quentin Farr (2-0) earned the win for Saint Joseph's with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Red-shirt sophomore left-hander Chad Gallagher (Southboro, Mass.) started and took the loss for Marist, as he fell to 1-1 on the season.

Marist is now 9-8 this season; Saint Joseph's improved to 3-10.

The Red Foxes will return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Albany. Game one is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
