HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Freshman Joana Sun (Gales Ferry, Conn.) of the Marist women's tennis team picked up the Red Foxes lone singles victory in a 6-1 loss at Hofstra on Wednesday. Sun won one of three, three-set singles matches on the day.
Sun defeated Malissa Gilanchi 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 to net a win at second singles. Sophomore Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) fell to Lauren Clifton at first singles 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, while junior Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) fell short in the third set as well, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Marist won at the top spot as McCarthy teamed with Sun to defeat Brooke Sailer and Paige Polizois, 8-4.
Marist returns to the courts on Thursday, March 25 as it takes on Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match. First serves are scheduled for 3 p.m.
