ALBANY, N.Y. - The Marist men's basketball team had its season end on Friday with a 72-54 loss to seventh-seeded Canisius in the 2010 Citizens Bank MAAC Championship. The 10th-seeded Red Foxes were led in scoring by freshman guard Devin Price (Inglewood, Calif.), who had 17 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 38 minutes.
Price shot 7-for-16 from the field and 3-for-7 from three-point range. Junior forward R.J. Hall (Bloomfield, N.J.) scored a season-high 10 points. Hall shot 3-for-4 from the field, 2-for-2 three-point range and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.
Canisius was led in scoring by Elton Frazier, who scored 17 points. Greg Logins had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and Alshwan Hymes added 11 off the bench on the strength of three three-pointers.
There were four lead changes and one tie in the first half. With 6:30 left until halftime, freshman forward Rob Johnson (Atlanta, Ga.) hit a jumper to give the Red Foxes an 18-17 lead. However, Canisius answered with a 12-0 run, and the Golden Griffins never trailed the rest of the way.
Marist clawed back and cut its deficit to five heading into the final possession of the half, but the Golden Griffins' Tomas Vazquez-Simmons banked in a three in the waning seconds of the half to give Canisius a 34-26 halftime lead. The Red Foxes never got closer than seven in the second half.
Marist ends its season at 1-29; Canisius improved to 15-16 and will face second-seeded Fairfield in the tournament quarterfinals on Saturday.
