POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team had its three-match win streak snapped on Sunday by the Colgate Raiders in a 5-2 dual match loss at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion. The Red Foxes got singles victories from sophomore Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) and junior Juliana Boas (Curitiba, Brazil). McCarthy has won her last four matches in singles play.
McCarthy pulled out a three set victory over Elise DeRose 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at first singles. She is now 2-2 this season when she plays in the top spot of the lineup.
At sixth singles, Boas got her second start of the spring semester at sixth singles. She garnered her first dual match victory as a member of the Red Foxes on Sunday, as she defeated Alexi Aberant. The final score of the match was 6-2, 5-7, 6-0.
The Red Foxes also won one doubles match as McCarthy teamed up with freshman Joana Sun (Gales Ferry, Conn.). The pair defeated DeRose and Stephanie Brown 8-6 at first doubles. Prior to Sunday's loss, Marist won the doubles point in four of its last five matches, including a sweep in the last three outings.
Marist will return to action on Monday, April 12 at 3 p.m. The Red Foxes will take on the Rider Broncs in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual match in Lawrenceville, N.J. The dual match will cap a stretch of three matches in as many days for Marist.
