POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team got dominant straight sets wins from freshmen Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) and Joana Sun (Gales Ferry, Conn.) against the Fairfield Stags on Tuesday, but it wouldn't be enough as Fairfield took down the Red Foxes 5-2 at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion. Both teams entered Tuesday's match tied for first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with identical 5-0 records.

Fairfield (15-5, 6-0 MAAC) opened the doubles action with an 8-2 win at third doubles, as Michaela Cerrone and Meghan Sullivan defeated Marist's (7-9, 5-1 MAAC) Kayla O'Donovan (Lynbrook, N.Y.) the deciding match for the doubles point. McCarthy and O'Donovan earned a key service break late in the match to take a 7-5 lead, only to see the Fairfield duo take the next four games to win 9-7 and take the first point of the match.

Raynor shut out Postupack at first singles, 6-0, 6-0, to get Marist's first point of the match. Sun also won in straight sets at third singles, defeating Liu 6-2, 6-1. The Red Foxes had a chance at a third singles point when Byron won the first set of her match at sixth singles against Amberg 6-2. Amberg came back and won the next two sets 6-0 and 6-0. Fairfield then won at second, fourth, and fifth singles in straight sets to win the match 5-2.

Marist returns to action on Sunday, April 18th when it travels to Baltimore to take on Loyola at 9 a.m.
