PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. - The Marist women's crew team totaled 166 points at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship meet held at Mercer County Park Marina, but the Red Foxes fell 16 points short and claimed second place on the day. Despite winning the JV 4 race, Marist fell to champion Loyola, who amassed 184 points.
In the event which Marist won, there were a total of seven crews in the field. The Red Foxes notched a 10.4 second victory over Loyola. Marist earned 15 points for its first place finish with a time of 7:49.1.
The Red Foxes rowed to second place finishes in four other events on the day: the varsity 8, the pair, the varsity 4 and the 2V8. The varsity 8 opened the day with its second place finish to get Marist 36 points out of the gate. The Red Foxes finished with a time of 6:56.6 in the event.
Marist took second in the pair which was a race for second place. Fairfield cruised to a 21 second victory in the race. The Red Foxes rowed to a final time of 8:44.4 for nine points.
In the women's varsity 4 Marist took second to Loyola. The Red Foxes finished with a time of 7:38.2, while Loyola claimed first place with a mark of 7:34.3. Marist's fourth second place finish came as a result of the 2V8 who rowed to a time of 7:18.6. The Marist crew came in five seconds behind Loyola, who finished with a time of 7:13.0.
The Marist crews will return to the water on Saturday, April 24 in Pittsfield, Mass., when it rows against Williams, Coast Guard, Bates and Ithaca.
