LATHAM, N.Y. - After a sweep of the doubles point, the Marist women's tennis team picked up four singles victories for its second straight conference win. The Red Foxes defeated Siena 5-2 on the road in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual match. Additionally, the Red Foxes have now won first, second and third singles spots in each of the last two outings.
The first doubles match was the closest of the afternoon. Freshmen Kayla O'Donovan (Garden City, N.Y.) and Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) made up the second doubles team, who beat Danielle Crill and Elora Benfer, while juniors Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) and Retta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.) bested Jessica Asselin and Brittany Filip at third doubles.
The top three spots in the lineup continued to carry the Red Foxes in singles. Sun netted the strongest margin of victory on the day. She used just 14 games to complete her third singles match as she won 6-2, 6-0 over Asselin.
McCarthy won at second singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory as she beat Crill. Raynor became the third double winner of day when she bested Sandhu 6-1, 7-5 in her first singles match. McCarthy notched her team-leading 10th win of the season in the match.
At fifth singles, Lukin defeated Filip, 6-3, 6-4 to round out the victories. Each of the four singles winners have now won two matches in a row for the Red Foxes.
Marist will retun to action on Saturday, April 10 at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion. The Red Foxes will host Niagara in a MAAC dual match. First serves are scheduled for 10 a.m.
