Final Stats

West Point, N.Y. - The Marist tennis team fell, 6-1, to Seton Hall on Saturday in their spring season opener that was held at Army's Litchenberg Tennis Center. Facing off with the Pirates from the Big East Conference, the Red Foxes were lead by Marielle Campbell's victory in singles competition, as well as, a win in second doubles by the team of Erin McCarthy and Retta Byron.

In the number five singles match freshman Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) defeated Seton Hall's Courtney Kilarski. Campbell came out fast with a 7-5 first set win and completed the match with 6-2 second set score.

In other singles action junior Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) and senior Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) had close matches, in which tie-breaking third sets were played to determine a victor.

In the number two singles match, McCarthy faced off with Seton Hall's Rocio Portela. The final score of the match was 4-6, 6-1, 10-3.

In the number six singles, Lukin lost a hard fought match against Karina Cordero by a score of 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.

Earlier on in the day in doubles action, McCarthy and senior Retta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.) won their match against Elizabeth Verow and Michelle Weerasinghe by a score of 8-4.

Marist will return to action tomorrow, January 30 when they travel down to West Point again, this time to face Army.
