RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match on Sunday. The Red Foxes dominated the Jaspers throughout and outshot them 22-8, but Manhattan's Trevor Chiduku scored the lone goal of the match, a one-time set up by Daniel Festa, at the 59:22 mark.
The Red Foxes also held statistical edges in shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (7-3). Senior Krystian Witkowski (Rochester, N.Y.) led everyone in the match with seven shots and two shots on goal. Junior Stephan Brossard (Port Washington, N.Y.) and senior Lucas Szabo (Bethesda, Md.) each had four shots and one on goal.
Graduate student goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) had two saves.
For Manhattan, goalkeeper George Ellis made six saves to earn the shutout, and Tommy Amos had a team-best three shots on goal.
Marist is now 6-6-4 overall and 2-4-1 in the MAAC; Manhattan is 3-12-1 overall and 3-3-1 in MAAC play.
Post-game Head Coach Matt Viggiano remarked that "he was pleased that the team dominated the play, but disappointed in the outcome. Unfortunately the best team doesn't always win and today was one of those games."
The Red Foxes will close out the regular season with a pair of home MAAC matches next weekend. Marist will host Rider at Tenney Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday, and Loyola at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Red Foxes' senior class will be honored prior to the Loyola contest. Both matches will be video streamed on GoRedFoxes.com, and will be part of the MAAC TV package.
